At the University of Zimbabwe, 52 top-performing students in Chinese language have been granted scholarships to further their studies in China. During the scholarship award ceremony in Harare on Tuesday, Chinese Ambassador Zhou Ding applauded the students for opening a wealth of opportunities by mastering a foreign language.
The significance of acquiring a foreign language cannot be overstated. In our increasingly interconnected world, language functions as the bridge that links cultures, fosters understanding, and strengthens friendships,” he remarked. “By mastering the Chinese language, you are unlocking a treasure trove of opportunities—cultural, academic, and professional. You are becoming guardians of a language spoken by over a billion people, enriched with thousands of years of history.
“By mastering the Chinese language and immersing yourselves in China’s rich history, splendid culture, and dynamic economy, you are enhancing your personal growth, bolstering your career prospects, and positioning yourselves as active contributors to Zimbabwe’s development. You are also contributing to the enduring partnership between our two great nations.”
