  • Chinese embassy donates solar lights, conducts free health checks in Zvimba

Over the past week, the Chinese medical team in Zimbabwe offered complimentary healthcare services at Herbert Chitepo Primary School in Zvimba. In addition, the Chinese embassy provided the local community with solar lights, agricultural supplies, and groceries. Chinese Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Zhou Ding, highlighted that these contributions are part of China’s efforts to help Zimbabwe regain its status as the region’s breadbasket.

China and Zimbabwe share a deep-rooted friendship, having fought together for Zimbabwe’s liberation and independence decades ago. This enduring bond has withstood the test of time, according to Ambassador Zhou Ding. He emphasized that China’s unwavering support for Zimbabwe extends beyond major infrastructure projects like the National Stadium, Parliament Building, airports, and power stations, reaching into the lives of ordinary people and grassroots communities.

In response to food shortages caused by the El Niño-induced drought, China plans to provide an additional US$10 million in aid to the most vulnerable communities, following earlier donations of US$6 million. To further promote rural development and poverty reduction, China is implementing a new project to drill 300 boreholes, supported by a Chinese government grant, after successfully completing the 1,000 Boreholes Drilling Project.

In the coming years, we plan to launch a project aimed at constructing numerous solar-powered facilities, including classrooms and clinics, in rural areas, Ambassador Zhou Ding denoted. Over the past year, the embassy has also initiated various youth and women empowerment programs, benefiting thousands of families across different communities, including those affected by the recent devastating fire at Mbare Musika in Harare. Additionally, the embassy is donating 1,000 solar lanterns to various rural communities.
